With broken hearts, we, the family of Joseph Edward Brennan, regret to announce his sudden passing at home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Born in Sydney on December 30, 1960, he was the son of the late Joseph and Shirley (Carew) Brennan. Joe is survived by his wife, Heather (MacKinnon); sons, Sandy (Deborah) Currie, Florida, Gregory (Catherine) Kennedy, Calgary, Kyle (Jessie) Brennan, Sydney and Kory (Dominique) Brennan, Penticton, BC; grandchild­ren, Madison, Claira, Johnny, Alex, Logan, Olivia, Emma, Nathan, Riley and Adeline; sisters, Nancy (Lindsey) MacRae, West Bay, Raylene Brennan, Sydney and Beverley Brennan (Glenn), Coxheath; brothers, Alfred (Diane), Winnipeg and David, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. For many years, Joe worked as a carpenter for Jim’s Windows & Doors, also as a Stevedore for Rowe Freight & Marine and later, Logistics. He also worked in Fort McMurray as a laborer and iron worker for many years. Joe was an avid hockey player, playing for over 30 years in the Gentlemen’s League, the Flatbellie­s. He also played with the County Blues and was always part of the Vince Ryan Memorial Tournament every year, making many lifelong friends. Joe loved Sports & Kids which led him to coaching for many years. He was involved in coaching kid’s slow pitch and soccer. He also coached hockey for the Cape Breton County Minor Hockey, Cape Breton Fire, also coaching his son, Kory and multiple other teams. Joe loved to go and just watch all sports and kids playing sports. Joe would often drive to the county rink or bike to the Coast Guard College Soccer field just to catch a game. Besides his parents, Joe was predecease­d by his daughter, Catherine Josephine “Joei” Kennedy; paternal grandparen­ts, Margaret and William Brennan; and maternal grandparen­ts, Lena and Alfred Carew. A family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
