MAHONEY, Sarah Isabelle

-

Sarah ‘Sally’ Mahoney, 91, of Sydney River and North Side East Bay, died peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2021, at the North Side Community Guest Home. Sally was born on April 13, 1930, in Glace Bay, the daughter of the late John A MacIntosh and Peggy (Donovan) MacIntosh of Glace Bay. Sally grew up in Glace Bay and worked at the family store until she trained at St. Joseph's to become a nurse. She then took a job as a nurse there and taught nursing to future classes. Once she met the love of her life, Michael Frances Mahoney, they started a life together in Sydney River and spent their summers in North Side East Bay, close to where Sally spent her childhood summers. Mom was very active in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, a long-term member of their CWL, spending countless hours trying to help the community through volunteer work. She cooked and baked like a pro, loaves of bread were made every Friday, and cookies always seemed to be in the oven. Her life was filled with swims in the lake, trips to Newfoundland with Nellie, Nelson, Bob, and Loie, bonfires, Mondays with Mary, family and most of all, laughter. Sally was the loving wife of Mike Mahoney for 66 incredible years. She is survived by her five children, Allen Mahoney (Joan), Kathy Mahoney, Paul (Dawn) Mahoney, Margo (Rob) Kozera and Laura Mahoney, all of the Sydney area; five grandchildren, Mark Mahoney (Alicia Hatchings and son, Avery), Michael Mahoney (Carla Ross), Matthew Mahoney (Brittany Morrison), Ian Mahoney and Andrea Mahoney; great-grandchildren, Isabella and Kaius Mahoney; sisters, Mary MacIntosh, Anne (Jerry) Caudle; sister-in-law, Gina MacIntosh and Vangie Corbett; brother-in-law, Leo MacCormack; also, honorary daughter, Lorena Capstick, in addition to countless nieces and nephews. Sally was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Joan Mahoney; sisters, Hellen MacAdam, Betty MacCormack; brother, Angus MacIntosh; sisters-inlaw, Marg Macneil, Rachael Martain, Nellie Muise, and Loie Dunn; brothers-in-law, Steve MacNeil, Heber Martin, Steve Corbett, Roddie MacAdam, Nelson Muise and Bob Dunn. We want to thank the North Side Nursing Home for loving her like we did, keeping her safe during a worldwide pandemic, making sure she looked like the beautiful lady she always was. Words cannot explain how thankful we are. Mom would walk you to the door when leaving the house, kiss you, and bless you by saying, "Go in the name of God and keep him always in your heart, and I love you". A visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, July 1, 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. with a Funeral Mass celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Parish Friday, July 2 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Bill Burke presiding. In lieu of flowers, donate to Haley Street or the charity of your choice. To leave memories or condolences for the family please visit www.twcurry.com.
