GLACE BAY — The Cape Breton Eagles reduced its training camp roster on Thursday, reassigning eight players to their respective under-18 major and junior 'A' teams.

Forwards Wynston Isheroff, Olivier Houde, Colby Huggan, Nolan Stewart, Liam Travis and Sydney's Trey Sturge as well as defenceman Michael McQuaid and goaltender Frédéric Plourde were cut.

The move comes as the club was mandated by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to have its camp roster down to 27 players. Cape Breton has 29 players on its camp roster, but Europeans Ivan Ivan and Mikhail Nizovkin are not included as they have yet to join the team.

Isheroff was an eighthround pick of the Eagles in June, while Houde was a seventh-round pick at the 2020 draft. Huggan, a thirdround pick, and Stewart, a 10th-round pick, were both selected in the 2020 draft.

The Eagles selected Travis in the 12th round in June, while Sturge was acquired via trade with the Shawinigan Cataractes in January and appeared in four regular season games with the team last year.

Meanwhile, McQuaid, an 18-year-old blueliner, was acquired via trade with the Victoriaville Tigres last year and played in eight regular season games with Cape Breton in 2020-21. As for Plourde, the 19-year-old was a free agent invite to camp this year.

Cape Breton will continue its preseason schedule today when they host the Charlottetown Islanders at 7 p.m. at Miners Forum in Glace Bay.

The team will wrap up training camp on Sunday.
