It is with great sadness that we, the family of John Alexander Parr, announce his passing on August 21, 2021, at the age of 66. Born in New Waterford on January 5, 1955, he was the son of Dorothy (Campbell) and the late John Parr, and also considered the late Neil MacNeil as a stepfather. John loved life to the fullest. His favorite hobbies included gambling and working on cars. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and just sitting watching TV with his mom. He would do anything for them and was always there to help in any way he could. He was also well known for his wittiness and smart come backs. John is survived by his mom, Dorothy, who he loved with every inch of his soul, and who he had the most love for. He loved his children with the biggest heart a man could give, Alexis Parr, Ont., Kim O’Rourke, Stewiack, Dawn Hurley, Glace Bay, John Michael Hurley, New Waterford. Also surviving are seven grandchild­ren, four great-grandchild­ren; brothers, Deckland MacNeil, Johnny Parr Jr.; sisters, Kim Parr, Melinda (Earl) Burke; his companion, Shauna Slade; best and trusting friends, Bev MacKay, Robert MacKinnon, Jamsie Burke, Mark Drake. Besides his father and stepfather, John was predecease­d by his grandparen­ts, Jack and Mary Parr, Alex ‘Brick’ and Susan Campbell; sisters, Margie Parr (2017), Judy Griffiths (2020); brother Wayne Parr (2016). Per John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A chapel service will take place on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 12 p.m., with Father Peter McLeod officiatin­g, followed by burial in Union Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
