Suspicious death in Truro confirmed a homicide


TRURO — Truro police have confirmed the suspicious death at an apartment building on the east end of Robie Street, during the early hours of Sept. 5, is now a homicide investigat­ion.

In a release Monday morning, they state the victim is a 23-year-old male but didn’t release his name.

Following Facebook posts and a GoFundMe page, the Truro News was able to confirm the identity is that of Prabhjot Singh Katri, who worked for McDonald’s, as well as part-time for Layton’s Taxi, both in Truro. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help send Katri’s body home to India, “so his parents can see their son for the last time.”

The Truro Police Service criminal investigat­ion division is being assisted by the Northeast Nova major crime unit and RCMP forensic identifica­tion section.

Truro Police Services was called to the building at 494 Robie St. at 2:08 a.m.

While the investigat­ion is ongoing, Truro police state there is no risk to the general public at this time.

The Red Cross is currently assisting more than a halfdozen tenants of the building who have been temporaril­y evacuated while the investigat­ion is being conducted.
