COMMUNITY CRUISE A HUGE SUCCESS

-

On Aug. 1, the 19th annual Community Cruise took place as sponsored by the Cape Breton Antique and Custom Car Club.

Starting at the Mayflower Mall, 66 antique custom classic and special interest cars and trucks travelled through Reserve Mines, Glace Bay, Bridgeport, Dominion, Gardiner Mines, River Ryan, Scotchtown and New Waterford to Colliery Land Park.

During the one-hour stop at the park, the Cape Breton Regional Municipality provided washroom facilities to everyone in attendance, the Colbourne Group provided free fries to all present and our Car Club handed out bottled water and pop.

With assistance from the Cape Breton Regional Police Traffic Division (Motorcycle and Police Cruisers), we then travelled to Sydney by way of New Victoria, Low Point, South Bar and Whitney Pier.

It was then onto Kings Road to Sydney River and over to Keltic Drive through Northwest Arm to North Sydney. Finally, we reached Sydney Mines before heading back to the North Sydney Mall which marked our final stop.

Before and after this journey, even split tickets were sold on behalf of our club charity of choice - the Northside Harbourview Hospital Foundation. At our final destination, draws for 28 donated prizes and gas cards took place. The winner of our 50/50 draw was Lenny Burke of Westmount who received $240.

In total, 77 vehicles attended our Community Cruise. Special thanks go out to all participants and to the traffic officers for their efforts. Also, a big thank you to all radio stations who promoted our cruise ‘on air’ prior to the event. The prizes donated by Colbourne Group, Macdonald Nissan and Plaza Ford were also greatly appreciated.

To the club committee and executive, as well as members who helped with parking and selling tickets, we extend many thanks. Finally, to those who were unable to attend due to holiday, work schedule, COVID restrictions or other personal commitments, hopefully we will see you next year for our 20th annual Community Cruise.
