MELNICK, Mary Carmel

-

Glace Bay

We the children, Peter Melnick (Angela), James Melnick (Mary), David Melnick (Penny), Beverly Stewart (Brian), Colleen Stewart (Ben) and Michael Melnick (Grace) would like to say how blessed we were to have had our mother in our lives for so many years. Born Sept. 26, 1922, in Glace Bay, she lived the majority of her life on Dragatis Street in Glace Bay. On March 12, 2022 (Saturday) at Waterford Heights, New Waterford, Ma was reunited in heaven with her husband, Peter Melnick (1927-1982), her mother, Lucy Young (Osmond) and father, John Young along with all of her brothers and sisters, Jack, Pearl, Francis, Allister, Vernon, Justin, Cleophus and infants Charles Bernard and Nita Marie. Along with her children, Mary is survived by several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her sisterin-law, Violet Young. Ma was a member of Holy Cross Parish and we have fond memories of Sunday dinner after church. Hairdressing was her early career and we all benefited from home haircuts. Ma worked for the war effort at an ammunition factory in Ajax, Ontario, Regis Spaghetti Shop, Glace Bay and then for many years at the Glace Bay Hotel. After retiring, she spent time visiting her out of province children and enjoyed travels to the USA and England. Like her mother, she loved to bake. We all remember her cinnamon rolls, tea biscuits and meat pies. Even though most of her children tried to master this craft, no one baked as good as our mother. We miss you Ma and are grateful for all the lessons and skills you taught us over the years. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will take place at a later date. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
