LEIGHTON, Gordon

-

It is with the most broken

of hearts that we announce

the passing of Gordon Leighton, of Meadows Road, Sydney Forks, on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born Oct. 3, 1965, Gordon was the son of Iva (Ross) and the late Allan Leighton of Sydney Forks. For numerous years, he worked at NS Power as a millwright and served over 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, 35 Service Battalion, Sydney, as a vehicle technician. Gordon lived large and was a man of many talents. He could be found out in his garage woodworking or in the woods with his saw. No tree was safe. Camping trips, gardening, NASCAR and sideby-side drives with Gail and Otis were his favourite pastimes, as well as enjoying bon fires and a little friendly competition of whose flame is bigger with his best friend, Ted “Pollock”. Gordon is survived by his wife and best friend, Gail (Hooper) Leighton and treasured fur baby, Otis. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Quinlan; brothers-in-law, Glenn (Betty-Lou) Hooper and Gary Hooper; nephews, Trevor and Jeffrey Quinlan, Khalil Abouhamad and Jarrett Smith; nieces, Selina Parnell and Tara Smith; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. If wealth was measured by friends, then Gordon was a very wealthy man. His circle of friends had no boundaries, as they were cherished from coast to coast. He was predeceased by his father, Allan Leighton; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Joyce Hooper; brother-in-law, Kevin Quinlan; sister-in-law, Donna Hooper; and nephew, Tyler Hooper. Gordon’s legacy will live on in the lives of others. As per his wishes, he was a tissue donor. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 6 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the

United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Saturday, May 7 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Masks are strongly suggested. Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchape

l.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca. Gordon, may you soar high. My life is so empty without

you. Know that every day you will be with me. “Let’s

have a nightcap”. Love, Ya!
