In his early years, Uncle left his home for Ontario to work at the Globe Envelope, but like a true family man, he returned home to help when his father called upon him. He travelled back and forth to PEI for a few years for work before helping his father run

Marsh’s Esso in Reserve Mines, which he later acquired with his brother. He later retired from Cape Breton Regional Housing.

Uncle was an avid Golf enthusiast, winning numerous club championships at Lingan Golf and Country Club, where he sat on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a well-known man in the golf community, and many stories can be told.

He will be dearly missed.

Uncle was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Reserve Mines and sat on the parish council for a time. He and Olive spent many nights travelling to bingo games all over town. He was a big sports fan, and when he was not down at Tim’s having a tea with the gentleman there, he would be home cheering on the Leaf’s and the Blue Jays, or tinkering in the garage with old trucks and lawnmowers.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. To Dr. Margaret Fraser and the EHS attendants, as well as to his granddaughters Julie and Amy for the exceptional care given to uncle in his last few days.

In Lieu of flowers, family requests that a Memorial

As Uncle would always say, “When you’re dead, you’re dead!”
