ST. CATHARINES, ONT. — Police have confirmed that a body discovered near a hydroelectric station is that of a missing Cape Breton woman.

Katrina Blagdon, a 37-yearold mother of two and retired military veteran, hadn't been seen since New Year's Eve.

On May 4, workers at the Heywood Generating Station in Port Dalhousie, Ont., discovered a body in the water about 10 kilometres away from where Blagdon was last seen.

In a media release Tuesday, Niagara Regional Police Service said the body was positively identified as Blagdon. Foul play is not suspected.

Born and raised in Arichat, Richmond County, Blagdon, who has two teenage boys, moved to St. Catharines in 2015 after retiring from the Canadian military where she served a tour in Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, the name of a Facebook group set up by her family to find the missing woman was changed from MISSING: Katrina Blagdon: TR!NAs ARMY to Katrina Blagdon: TR!NAs ARMY.

There was an immediate outpouring of sympathy and support for the family and friends.

"My heart. Not the news anyone was hoping for,” wrote one member of the group. “I am at a loss for words. Over the past few months Trina's name has come up in conversation almost daily. Every hike, drive and adventure included searching for something that may belong to her. I have had dreams of her and I have lost sleep over the thought of this beautiful soul. Yet I have never met her. This story has touched so many.”

“I'll never forget her infectious smile and can still hear her laugh from back in our school days,” posted another person.
