Surrounded by those who loved him most, Todd quietly passed away on July 29, 2022, at the age of 48, after a courageous battle with cancer. Throughout the journey with his diagnosis, Todd never gave up and faced each step of the process with determination, humour, acceptance, and trust. If you were blessed enough to have known Todd, you knew he was a wonderful husband and a loving father. He was a man with an unfailing sense of humour, a giving friend who would come whenever asked, whether to help or for a bit of fun. The world loses one of a kind with the loss of Todd. Born in Sydney on November 27, 1973, Todd was the son of Bill and the late Carmelita (Livingstone) Carey. Todd grew up in Groves Point and after graduating from Memorial High School (class of ’92) he furthered his education by completing the Stationary Engineering program. Todd would later be employed with the CBRM for twenty-two years, first as a boiler operator at the incinerator and then as a wastewater treatment operator at Battery Park.
Left behind tomourn this great loss is his father Bill Carey, Groves Point; his wife and his rock, Stacey (Reno), North Sydney; his two most cherished and loved children, whom he spoke of with unending pride, Nolan and Brylee; his younger brother Trevor, Groves Point; favorite nephew, Lyndon Quirk; brother-in-law, Joey Reno; mother-in-law, Phyllis Reno; honorary brother, John (Flora) Brennick; best friends, Darlene and Norm Petite and Catherine Shepherd.
To name all the others that loved Todd with their whole hearts would fill pages but also left with deep sadness at this loss are godchildren, extended family and circle of friends, neighbors and coworkers who have all been so touched by thisman.
Todd was predeceased by his mother, Carmelita “Carmie” Carey as well as his father-in-law, Wayne Reno.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Saliba, Rhonda MacNeil, and the entire staff of the cancer center; the VON of Cape Breton; The Palliative Care Unit and all the staff of 4D at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the VIP treatment.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Todd to the Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund.
Therewill be a visitation for Todd from 5-8 p.m., on Wednesday, August 3, in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home at 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, August 4, at 1 p.m., at the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 24 King Street in North Sydney with Rev. Jackie Warren and Rev. Debbie Fice officiating. The church strongly encourages face masks be worn during the service. The service will be live streamed on the W.J. Dooley Facebook page. Committal service will follow at Lakeside Cemetery and a reception will be held in the church hall.
