It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the passing of our dear mother on July 26, 2022, surrounded by love. Born on March 27, 1928, in Minto, New Brunswick, she was one of eight children born to the late Albert and Winnifred (Lane) Walker. Phyllis was a multi-talented mother and loving housewife to her husband Billie and her children Diana and Philda. She had a talent for crafting: knitting, crocheting, sewing, rug hooking, paper tole, gardening and making preserves. Phyllis served in the army for a time and was a devoted member of Newsom United Church in Glace Bay. She taught CGIT and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the St. John’s Ambulance. Phyllis loved to bowl in the Bush League and to read, especially western and historical romance novels. When she wasn’t reading she was watching classic western movies starring John Wayne. Phyllis was also known to be lucky especially when she would buy scratch tickets or play cards. Phyllis is predecease­d by her parents Albert and Winnifred Walker, her husband William “Billie”, and her brothers Ronald, Charles, William and Douglas. Phyllis is survived by her daughters Diana (Allison, deceased) MacLean and Philda Barnes. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Betty Bauman and Shirley Smith, brother Albert; grandchild­ren, Kimberly, Allana (Troy), Jamie (Tina), Jarrod (Susan) and Jason (Lauren). Phyllis also leaves behind her greatgrand­children, Haylee, Noah, Samual, Spencer, Reid, Blake, Everett and Branson as well as several nieces and nephews. A visitation with refreshmen­ts will be held at Patten Funeral Home from 12-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, a Funeral service will follow with Martha MacDonald presiding.
