-

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce that Anna Maria (Manna) Amati of Sydney, passed away peacefully in her beloved home surrounded by her loved ones on August 1, 2022, at the age of 83. She was able to stay in her home until the end with the love and supportive care of her family. Anna was born in Naples, Italy on April 1, 1939. Anna, with her two boys and expecting one more, immigrated to Canada to join her loving husband Gervasio in 1966. While raising her young family, Anna also worked as a dressmaker from her home. Later she began working in the downtown shopping district as a tailor, eventually becoming successful enough to own her own shop on Charlotte Street, Cleri’s Tailor Shop. Anna was also known for her delicious cooking. Anna loved to talk to people and tell them stories of her beloved Italia while whipping up a pot of pasta. Anna built a beautiful life for her family in Cape Breton and has left us with an abundance of beautiful memories to cherish. Anna was predeceased by her parents and brother Angelo. Anna will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 60 years Gervasio, her loving children Giam Paolo (Selina) Dartmouth, Marco (Barbara) Sydney and Theresa (Kelly) Fredericton. Anna will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren Sophina, Isabella, Gian Luca, Angela, Matteo, Connor and Gavin. They all had a special place in her heart. Nonna will always be remembered for her special songs, pizzelle and quiet stories. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the City Homemakers of Cape Breton, the VON and the Palliative Care Team who took great care of our mom. You are very special people who took the time to talk and listen to her during this time. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com
