FRANCIS, Jane “Janie”

After a long and courageous battle with cancer It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Jane “Janie” Harriett Francis (MacDonald) on Monday, Aug 1, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Hunt’s Island, Burgeo, NL, on March 15, 1951, Janie was the daughter of the late Gordon and Ellen MacDonald. She was a devoted member of St John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. She was a long-time lunchroom and bus supervisor for the CBRCE, a long time Cape Breton Post and Chronicle Herald carrier, a proud member of the Ladies Orange Benevolent Associatio­n of Canada, Mothers Union of the St John’s Anglican Church, North Sydney Seniors and Pensioners Club, North Sydney Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Tops #1009, Fun and Mixed Dart League of the Fulton Orange Lodge, Salvation Army Christmas Kettles and Terry Fox volunteer. Janie was always there to volunteer and lend a hand to anyone who needed it. Thank you to all who held a special place in her heart. She is survived by her children, D’anne Francis (Charlie), Tanya Martinovic, Donald Francis, Christophe­r Francis, Ronnie (Anna) Francis, Dave Francis; her grandchild­ren, Robert Francis, Lizzy Francis, Charles Hickman, Amy (Kevin) White and Jennifer Francis; her greatgrand­children, Madison, Ian and Dylan; her siblings, Barbara (John) McLeod, Cora (Reginald) Best, Ada (Darrell) MacDonald, Delphine (Montford) Keeping, Paul MacDonald and Margaret (Ian) Hawlbolt; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and many who were like family to her. Besides her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Ronald; her son, Paul; and son-in-law, Joe Martinovic. Visitation for Janie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Debbie Fice officiatin­g.
