We the family of Rose Anne Bernard announce her passing, surrounded by the love of her friends and family on November 18, 2022. She was born on January 8, 1952, to James and Rita (Poulette) Bernard. Rose had such a positive impact on many lives over the years and was well respected with a smile that could light up any room and a laugh that you would never forget. She was well known throughout the world as a master basket weaver with her creations reaching far beyond the edges of Cape Breton. Rose graduated from Dalhousie and spent many years working for NADACA as an addiction's counselor. In this role she helped so many and was a fierce advocate for women. After moving on from that role she became a beloved member of Cultural Journies. Rose will be dearly missed by her coworkers and anyone fortunate enough to have known her. Rose is survived by her children, Michelle Paul (Jody), Annette Gabriel, Lynn Battiste (Milton), Zusun Parnell; grandchild­ren, Josh, Michael, Daphne, Mise’l, Jordan, Keena, Katelyn, Leanne, Adam, Hope, Meagan, Kassidy, Aaron Jr., Antwon, Thomas, Suzanna; great-grandchild­ren, Ryleigh, Brooklyn, Jordan Jr.,Eronden, Evelyn, Lucas, Vi, Dennis, Kayson, Raiden, Connor, Cohen, Adalynn, Adam Jr., Avah, Kingston, Melody, James, Kassie, Lizzie, John Jr., Elora, and Aurora. Rose also leaves to mourn her nieces and nephews, Levi, Tommy Jr., JJ, Chico, James, Sherisse, William; and her sister-in-law, Eva Bernard. Rose also leaves behind her beloved godchildre­n, Sherisse, Chrisma, William, Annie Jane and her special friends Sylvia, Arlene, Sharon and Sheila. Rose is predecease­d by her parents, James and Rita (Poulette) Bernard; two children in infancy, Jacob and Christophe­r; brother, Tommy; sisters, Irene and Nancy; greatgrand­son Mise’l; Rose is also predecease­d by her husbands, Michael Patrick, Gabriel, and Ronald Francis. Rose’s family would like to send a very heartfelt thank you to Alderwood Rest Home for the care she received; and how much her time there felt like home. They would also like to thank Palliative Care for the kindness and compassion that Rose received in her final days. Visitation will begin Thursday, Nov 24th, at 7 p.m., in Elder Center in Eskasoni. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov 26th, in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Antolin Asor officiatin­g, a feast and salite will follow.
