Middle school ‘B’ division awards handed out
SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Middle School Soccer League recently announced its annual award winners for its ‘B’ division for the 2022 season.
Joelle Boudreau of Whitney Pier Memorial was named the league’s most valuable player for her performance on the pitch in the fall, while Norah MacDonald of Malcolm Munroe took home the rookie of the year honours. Breton Education Centre coach Renee MacLean was named the coach of the year.
Along with the individual awards, the league also announced its all-stars for the season.
The first all-star team feature goalkeeper Kaylee Primmer (Malcolm) as well as defenders Sloan Riley (Whitney Pier), Ava Best (Whitney Pier) and Lilly Locke (Malcolm) along with midfielders Lucy Campbell (Whitney Pier), Chloe Moore (Malcolm) and Haley Herridge (Sydney Mines).
Strikers Allie Penny (Whitney Pier), Kylin MacDonald (BEC), Norah MacDonald (Whitney Pier) and Jade Vickers (Sydney Mines) were also part of the first all-star team.
The second all-star team includes goalkeeper Maddy Mollons (Whitney Pier) along with defenders Joelle Boudreau (Whitney Pier), Claire Higgins (Malcolm), Carley Richardson (Malcolm), Becca Keeping (Sydney Mines) and Lily Crowdis (Sydney Mines).
Midfielders Haley Kieley (Whitney Pier), Maddy Armstrong (Whitney Pier), Natalie Carrigan (BEC), Audrey Todd (Malcolm) and Sadie MacDonald (Sydney Mines) also picked up second-team all-star honours. No strikers were named to the team.
The Cape Breton Middle School Hockey League named its ‘A’ team all-stars in November. The league will resume play in the fall.
