MacPHERSON (Luce), Jessie Isabel

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom, Jessie Isabel (Luce) MacPherson on Monday, November 21, 2022, in the QEII Hospital, Halifax with her youngest son Andrew by her side.

Born May 1, 1930, in Pondville, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late Margaret (MacLeod) and John T. Luce (Lewis).

Mom will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by her three children, Sheumais, Tokyo, Sandra (Arne Meyer-Rahlfs) and Andrew (Mary), Halifax; three adoring grandsons, Willem, Hannes and Kieren; many nieces and nephews; her cousin, Mary Wilma; and-brother-in-law, Owen.

Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Ian; her parents; siblings, Margaret Murray, Boston, Mass., Stanley and Gordon, Sydney; and her beloveddog, Spinner.

Momworked for the Province of N.S. as a clerk, first at the Point Edward Hospital and later at the Cape Breton Addiction Centre, from where she retired in 1994, with over 30 years of service and with lasting friendships. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Sydney, where she served in the UCW as an Elder and also with the Industrial CB Council of Churches. For many years she gave back to her community as a member of the Kinettes and canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mom loved her game of Bridge, playing consistently for many years with great friends. We are told she was a stellar player and a coveted partner. Mom enjoyed rich friendships with other families on Cusack Dr. that extend to this day.

Oma/Grannie made the most excellent chocolate chip cookies and ensured she returned from Sydney this past summer with a batch for each grandson.

We were very blessed to have Mom move to Parkland, Clayton Park in recent years. We could see her frequently and she joined us in family functions. Mom settled in well, joined activities and continued to play Bridge. She enjoyed her table mates, the respect of the Aberdeen staff and greatly appreciated all that Brenda did for her. Also, since arriving in Halifax, she felt very fortunate to have Mary pay such loving attention to her hair.

Momhad numerous friends whose lives she touched with her generous and caring spirit, including friends of ours.

Ourmother will be remembered for her tenacity, wit and charm, as well as a strong-minded woman with an amazing sense of style and an abundance of grace.

We want to say a special thank-you to Joe, Linda and Keith who kept a close eye on Momin the years she was alone. She mothered to the very end, asking the night before she passed, "Are you warm enough?"

Visitation will take place in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11 a. m. with Rev. Dr. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment will take place in ForestHaven Memorial Gardens at a later date.

No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
