ALLEN, Gordon “Gordie” William

Age 91, of Westphal, passed away on January 16, 2023 in the Dartmouth General Hospital with his family by his side. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late David and Vivian (Evans) Allen. Gordie began his career as an electrician in North Sydney. He and his family moved to Dartmouth in 1965 when he took a position as a Planner Estimator with DND at the HMC Dockyard. He very soon became a Supervisor where he served for 32 years before retiring. He enjoyed walking and walked every day at Shubie Park with his wife and friends. He also loved traveling, far and near. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, and especially watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. Gordie was a devoted member of St. John’s Anglican Church. He was also a long-standing member of the Mason’s Lodge Woodlawn # 131. He enjoyed spending time with a local Men’s Breakfast Club. In his earlier years, he loved volunteering as a hockey coach, playing softball, and men’s floor hockey. Gordie is survived by his daughters, Valerie (Josh), North Sydney, Paula, Lake Echo; sons, David (Jeanie), Lawrencetown, James, Tracyville, NB; 10 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline (Vickers); grandson, Nicholas; brother, Sidney. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, January 22nd in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. The funeral service will take place at 2p.m. on Monday, January 23rd in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Canon Dr. Jody Clarke officiating. Reception to follow. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or St. John’s Anglican Church, Westphal.
