It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Raymond Murray Prosper Sr. 56 of Eskasoni on January 11, 2023, at his home. Born in Sydney he was a son of Bessie (Stevens) Prosper of Eskasoni and the late Wilfred J. Prosper Sr. A lover of the great outdoors, Raymond loved fishing, hunting, hiking, eel spearing, blueberry picking and exploring nature. He spent many hours with his children and grandson embracing the outdoors sledding, hiking, visiting water parks, and camping old school style and of course golf. He also had a passion for Mi’kmaq Language, L’nu Medicines and culture, and wanted to learn more. His passions were not limited to the outdoors, he also enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, fiddle and especially loved to sing to his one and only grandson. He was an avid Boston Bruins Fan. He loved life, family, and nature. He knew everyone and spoke to everyone even if he didn’t know them, he loved socializin­g. He was always willing to share fun life experience­s. Raymond was a great animated storytelle­r, who captivated his audience with his positive and humorous stories. He loved his family and friends and took pride in all his children’s accomplish­ments. He had many talents, a jack of all trades. In his early years Ray worked as fishery Guardian (UINR), powerline surveyor, Crane cove seafood, Self employed barber, water sampler, research diver (UINR), Currently he was a fisherman at Crane Cove Seafoods. He was also athletic and played defence in hockey, west island senior hockey, Wish leagues, gentlemen’s hockey and old timers hockey. He also played for the Sr. Eagles in Rez hockey and played for Whycocomag­h Oilers in the West Island Sr. Hockey league. He will be missed by his loving wife, Valerie (Cremo); sons, Darrien (Jeniece), Raymond Jr (Olivea), Caleb; daughters: Ashley (Kevin), Kaylee, Aimee, and Isabella, and his one and only grandson Jairus; sisters, Linda Battiste, Regina (Gerard) Johnson, Stella (Steve) Fraser, Vivian (Allan) Jeddore, Ramona (Lloyd) Gould, Rita (Billy) Gould, Norma(Maurice ) Denny, Mary (George) Paul, and Helen (Jay) Stevens; brothers, Kenny, Floyd (Dawna) and Anthony; godchildre­n, Luke, Nicole, Sierra, Noah and Lyndsay ; many nieces and nephews and best friend, Henry Man.2. Raymond was predecease­d by his brothers, Peter (Shirley) and Wilfred Junior (Laura); nephews, Jaret Johnson, Connor Fraser and baby Wilfred Prosper; and godparents Joe R. and Susie Denny. Visitation for the late Raymond Prosper will begin on Sunday, January 22, after 7 p.m. at the Gabriel Center, 74 Gabriel Street, Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, at Holy Family Church, Eskasoni, Fr. Antolin Asor will officiate. Interment in parish cemetery.
