It is with profound sadness that we, the family announce the passing of Barry Sando on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born on June 4, 1940, in London, Ont., Barry was a son of the late Moody and Elva (Campbell) Sando. Barry will be lovingly remembered by wife, Ruth (Evely); daughter, Jennifer; son-in-law, Michel; grandson, Justin; brother, Terry; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and long-time Ontario friends. Besides his parents, Barry was predeceased by his brother, Jack. Barry spent his early working years in bank management followed by a lengthy career in the travel industry. He and Ruth retired to Cape Breton in 2018 after living in Markham, Ont. for 37 years. Barry was a passionate sports fan, an avid golfer and loved trivia, travelling and spending time with family and friends. He was an entertaining storyteller with a great sense of humour and always loved throwing out classic one liners. Some of his proudest moments and fondest memories were playing sports with his grandson, Justin. Barry always supported Justin in his sporting endeavours, and he was his biggest fan. The most precious time was the two of them golfing together. Barry started teaching Justin the game of golf at the age of two and it became a special connection between a grandson and his Ba. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Barry Sando will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Whitney Pier on Saturday, January 21, 2023. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Jane Keller LLWL officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Barry may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
