HOLLAND, Cheryl Lynn “Chery”

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Cheryl “Chery” Lynn Holland, age 61, on March 31, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with loving family by her side. Born and raised in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late David and Ursula (Whalen) Hynes. Chery was a proud homemaker. She was great in the kitchen, whether she was found baking, cooking, or dancing. Chery was an avid dancer as a young girl, enjoying ballet and tap dancing. She continued this passion throughout her life by dancing with family and friends. She had a natural sense of humor and enjoyed making family and friends laugh. Whether she was dressing up in silly costumes, busting a move, or making her delicious pies, she was always the life of every gathering. Chery is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Kevin; daughters, Candace (Jonathan), Catelynn (Matthew), and stepdaught­ers, Courtney (Brian) and Katie (Kassam); brothers, Dougie (Barbara), Tony (Yvonne), and Andy (Helen); three sisters, Sally O’Brien, Alice Hynes-Lahey, and Barbie (Kevin) Van Hove; as well as her special grandchild­ren, Nathan and Camryn, and many nieces and nephews. Cheryl is predecease­d by her mother and father along with her sisters, Patricia Campbell, Deborah Hynes-Leblanc; brothers, J.O. Hynes and David Hynes, as well as her nephew, Jason Hynes. Visitation for the late Cheryl Holland will be held on Friday April 5th, at 6 – 9 p.m., taking place at V.J McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St, Glace Bay, NS. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6th, at 11 a.m. in The Salvation Army, 40 Union St, Glace Bay, NS. Interment to follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wallace Rd. Glace Bay. Lieutenant Dion Durdle and Major Marie Osborne-Keeping presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
