Cape Breton Partnership hosting public panel on transportation
SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Partnership is inviting the public to join an information session to discuss the importance of diversifying transportation systems and their impact on the local economy.
With a focus on the need for expanded and diversified commercial shipping systems, the May 6 panel examining the impact of transportation costs will highlight the accompanying employment opportunities, including expanded export potential, manufacturing opportunities and the attraction of outside investment to the island.
The session will be cohosted by the partnership, the Cape Breton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Scotia Rail Development Society, Port of Sydney and JA Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport.
Moderator and partnership CEO Tyler Mattheis will be joined by local business people and experts on investment attraction, export, engineering, bulk shipping and green energy.
"The CBRM, as the urban hub of Unama'ki — Cape Breton, is recognized as a key economic hub with the potential for a diverse transportation network that includes road, rail, sea and air infrastructure," said Mattheis.
"However, without significant updates and expansion of each of these systems, the CBRM is restricted in its ability to fully contribute to a strong and growing Nova Scotia, despite the many opportunities for economic development and growth."
The event will take place between 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Port of Sydney's Pittman Hall. Attendees can register online at https://www. eventbrite.ca/e/impactof-transportation-costson-life-and-work-in-unamaki-cape-breton-tickets883358849097?aff=oddtdtcreator or email info@ cbregionalchamber.ca.
