A vegetation control program will be carried out on Cape Breton Central Nova S cotia Railway lines ( CBNS) within the Province of Nova Scotia from June 15 to September 30th. This program will be c onfined to C BNS’s r ight-ofway on his rail l ines from Truro to Havre Boucher (going through or n ear the t owns o f Afton Station, Antigonish, Avondale, Barneys River, Brierly Brook, Egerton, Eureka, Glengarry S tation, Hopewell, J ames River, Lansdowne Station, Linwood, Marshy Hope, Merigomish, Monastery, New Glasgow, Pomquet Station, Riversdale, Salmon River, Stellarton, Tracadie, Union and West River Station). Then from Havre Boucher to Port Hastings (going t hrough the town of Aulds Cove).

This program is necessary in order t o eliminate b rush, weeds and other undesirabl­e vegetation, which constitute a hazard to the public and as well as CBNS employees. If left uncontroll­ed, vegetation c ontributes to trackside fires, impairs proper inspection of track infrastruc­ture, etc. Authorized and licensed operators (Asplundh Canada ULC, 800-908-9333) in a ccordance w ith t he Environmen­t A ct and Pesticides Regulation­s under authority of Nova Scotia Environmen­t will apply all herbicides. This program will be subject to all habitation, aquatic and municipal water supply setbacks. It will also be in compliance with the Environmen­t Act and Pesticides Regulation­s as well as additional terms and conditions in accordance with the Pesticide Approval Applicatio­n issued by the Nova Scotia Environmen­t.
