MACDONALD, Margaret Loretta “Peggy”

In her 69th year, of Sydney, passed away, Sunday, May 1 2, 2 024, at Hospice Cape Breton. Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of t he late John Gregory and Mary Margaret Macdonald. She was predecease­d by her sister, Susan Elizabeth Martin, in 2023. Peggy is survived by h er siblings, Catherine (Peter) Green of B lacketts Lake, Connie MacDonald, Sydney, Frances MacDonald, Dartmouth, Neil( Cathy) MacDonald and Flora MacDonald, Sydney. Peggy is also survived by h er nephews, Graham( Rebecca) and Jonathan Green, Alberta, Brian Maxwell Martin ( Jocelyn), Greg and Jack MacDonald of Sydney; as well as, her brother-in-law, Brian Martin. Peggy’s media career spanned fifty years, starting as a reporter with the Cape Breton Highlander newspaper in the 1970’s. She was a newspaper columnist, on air reporter, editor and investigat­ive journalist. Of note, she wrote a weekly entertainm­ent column in the Halifax Chronicle Herald called Night Side. S he worked for CHNS (Halifax), CJCB and CHER radio in Cape Breton, ending her career as news editor/executive producer at CBC Cape Breton. Cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends at T WC urry Park view Chapel, 755 George St. on Thursday, May 16 from 5– 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’ s Church, Whitney Avenue, Sydney, on Friday, May 17 at 11 a.m ., Fr. Evo DiPierro officiatin­g. A reception will be held in her honour at St. Theresa’ s Parish Centre following. Interment with her parents to follow at a later date at Resurrecti­on Cemetery.
