LEWIS, Shirley Selina

-

It i s with profound sadness that the family of Shirley Lewis announce her passing on May 1 5, 2024, at t he age of 92. Shirley was a loving wife, m other, grandmother, GG, sister, aunt, and friend. Shirley was born was born in Ingonish, C ape Breton to Purvis and Letitia (Brewer) Stockley in 1932. She grew up in Ingonish and worked at the Keltic Lodge until leaving for Toronto to e xplore new p ossibilities. It was there she met Albert L ewis and they married and started their family. Soon after, the lure o f Cape Breton called them home and they made the move in 1961. Mom was lovingly devoted to caring for her family. She was a natural caregiver, a role she embraced for Dad for three years until his death in 2020. Mom was very independent and was able to remain in her home with the assistance of family and friends. Cathy and Clifford, whom she loved and appreciated, would drive her all over Cape Breton, chatting and reminiscing, always stopping ‘for a bite’. Shirley had a sharp wit and a dry sense of h umour and could ‘shoot a look’ that stated it all. To say ‘ the best things come in small packages’ would b e her. Although small in stature, she lived life like a giant. She loved fiercely, laughed often, a nd gave o f herself always. Most of a ll, Mom loved spending time with her family and was so p roud o f her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them all dearly. C herished in life and lovingly remembered by h er son, R andy Lewis (Sherri); daughter, Wendy Sue Wagner (Brian); grandchildren, Courtney Campbell (David), Brandon Lewis (Mallory), Brittni Lewis, Drew W agner ( Jenna); great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kye Campbell and Talula Lewis; nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides h er parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Albert; brothers, Clifford, Wesley, T om; and sister, Hattie Rutledge.
