Bitterroot Celtic Games & Gathering

The Bitterroot Celtic Games and Gathering returns this summer for its 12th year. Held at the historic Daly Mansion on the third weekend each August, the annual gathering is one of the biggest cultural events of its kind in Montana. Things kick-off early Saturday morning with an all-weekend schedule of musical performances on the Entertainment Stage, including the fabulous Harp Twins, Celtic quintet Swagger, folk duo House of Hamill, and trio TopHouse. Between sets, attendees will enjoy pipe band competitions, as well as Highland and Irish dance contests. Visit the Clan Tent Village (over 30 clans!) and watch the Entrance Parade of the Clans at 1pm each day. The weekend is full of ongoing events, including the extremely popular Highland Games on Saturday, which remains the largest athletic competition in Montana. Come evening, all are welcome to attend the free Ceilidh (hosted dance party), held from 7-10 pm in the Dance Tent. The festival's new refrigerated Beer Trailer will serve up an array of amazing local brews and mead. The weekend will also hold Scotch whisky and mead tastings, a horseback jousting demonstration, and over 50 vendors selling traditional food and wares. Sunday will see a variety of activities for public participation, including a Celtic Afternoon Tea, a Tug o' War, a Skillet Toss, a Beards ‘n' Braids competition, as well as the “almost famous” Bonnie Knees contest. The wee ones can enjoy a series of age-appropriate play and activities, including the Juniors Highland Games.
