Galician Horses
A recent study from A Coruña University spells out the importance of the wild horses of Galicia to the ecosystem in which they live. It is estimated that the population has been cut in half over the last 50 years. Both directly and indirectly, horse grazing has benefits for the environment, such as reducing “the costs of machine-driven slashing for fire prevention,” as reported by El País newspaper. The researchers behind the study are calling for improved policies and regulations around protecting the horses, as well as making guidelines easier for horse owners.
