Saskatchewan Highland Gathering & Celtic Festival
The Saskatchewan Highland Gathering & Celtic Festival is a must for anyone with a keen interest in Scottish history and culture. Held this May in Regina's beautiful Victoria Park, the one-day affair will host a variety of engaging activities, including piping and drumming, Highland dance performances and an all-day entertainment tent, where visitors can enjoy locally brewed beer (courtesy of Piles O' Bones Brewing Co.) while listening to an assortment of live musical performances. The gathering's main event, the Scottish Heavy Athletics, will take place throughout the day, featuring competitions in the hammer throw, the caber toss, the Braemar stone, and more. The children's area will host its own, scaled-down version of the games with mini competitions in the caber toss, as well as ageappropriate musical performances, and a Celtic bouncy castle. The festival's Celtic Vendor Market - an impressive assortment of Scottish-inspired fares and wares - will be open for business, with booths booked for Saskatoon's The Kilt Lady, balloon sculptor Patrick Roth, and fish ‘n' chip truck The Frying Deutschman, among others.
