Maine Celtic Celebration
This July 22 -24, the Maine Celtic Celebration returns to downtown Belfast for a weekend of music, dance, and Celtic heritage. Located on two nearby parks overlooking the harbor (the Steamboat Landing and the Belfast Commons), the three-day, family-friendly gathering aims to preserve and promote Maine's strong Celtic roots through musical performances and cultural activities. Things kick-off in grand style on Friday evening with live music on the Commons stage, while visitors can enjoy a pint from the beer tent and food from a variety of vendors. Saturday starts with both a 5K Kilted Kanter through historic districts of Belfast and an opening Celtic Dog Parade and Show, followed by a full day of music on two stages (headlined by Mick Maloney and Jimmy Keane), dancing, a Scottish Clans gathering, workshops, and a performance of "the Scottish play" by the Recycled Shakespeare Company. Fireworks will finish the day's festivities. Sunday features the always popular Highland Heavy Games, the US National Cheese Roll Championship (open to all age groups, and hilarious to watch) and more great music and workshops. The festival is open to all by donation.
