Broad­caster Gimel­stob charged with as­sault

Ten­nis broad­caster and coach Justin Gimel­stob faces a felony as­sault charge fol­low­ing his Oct 31 ar­rest for al­legedly at­tack­ing an ex-friend in Los An­ge­les.

The 41-year-old for­mer pro player is sched­uled to ap­pear in court on Wednes­day.

Gimel­stob’s at­tor­ney didn’t im­me­di­ately re­spond to an email on Tues­day seek­ing com­ment.

Gimel­stob was ar­rested on sus­pi­cion of at­tack­ing Ran­dall Ka­plan from be­hind as they cel­e­brated Hal­loween with their kids. Ka­plan said Gimel­stob struck him mul­ti­ple times and threat­ened to kill him. with 24 home runs. Over his 12-year ca­reer, he is a .290 hit­ter with 224 homers and 779 RBIs in 1,286 games.

With the Colorado Rock­ies, he fin­ished fifth in the Na­tional League MVP vot­ing in both 2009 and 2010 and won Gold Glove awards in 2010 and 2011.
