Broadcaster Gimelstob charged with assault
Tennis broadcaster and coach Justin Gimelstob faces a felony assault charge following his Oct 31 arrest for allegedly attacking an ex-friend in Los Angeles.
The 41-year-old former pro player is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Gimelstob’s attorney didn’t immediately respond to an email on Tuesday seeking comment.
Gimelstob was arrested on suspicion of attacking Randall Kaplan from behind as they celebrated Halloween with their kids. Kaplan said Gimelstob struck him multiple times and threatened to kill him. with 24 home runs. Over his 12-year career, he is a .290 hitter with 224 homers and 779 RBIs in 1,286 games.
With the Colorado Rockies, he finished fifth in the National League MVP voting in both 2009 and 2010 and won Gold Glove awards in 2010 and 2011.
