From accoutrements to edibles, a refined cannabis culture is the new normal
Edition X puts its stamp on upscale cannabis with mouth-watering edibles. Plus: cutting-edge chef’s tools
Pre-legalization, cannabis and pot paraphernalia were divorced. Papers, bongs and pipes were sold at psychedelic poster–clad head shops; the green stuff was procured by other means. But thanks to a new crop of outlets marrying marijuana with refined toking tools, the look of the 420 industry is changing. Edition X, a new bud boutique, aims to be a vanguard in this space, elevating cannabis culture ever higher.
Edition X launched with two sleek Studioac-designed shops located in the Annex and Wychwood neighbourhoods. The airy, light-filled retail spaces are more modern art gallery than grungy ganja grocer. The selection is edited; each location will carry only choice consumable items alongside sophisticated accessories. “Less is sometimes more. And sometimes less is prettier, too,” says owner Ryan Roebuck. “We’re selling objets d’art,” he continues. “People display their bar carts, so why not display their cannabis-related items, too?”
The X in the company’s name signals its selective nature and collaborative ambitions. Local furniture designer Mary Ratcliffe was commissioned to make ashtrays and catchalls, while Toronto’s Greentank has created an elegant custom vape pen for the brand. In terms of edible offerings, they’ve teamed up with former Drake Hotel executive chef Ted Corrado, whose Thc-laced Turkish delights are nothing like the astringent gummies of yore. Corrado uses Edition X’s house line of cannabis to create his juicy jellies, which come in such tantalizing flavours as blood orange and grapefruit hibiscus. Tucked into minimalist packaging, these bijou sweets resemble gems, a befitting look for a new and noble high society. HELLOEDITION.COM
