PROJECT LOOKS. MUSCLE. LONGEVITY
LML BRAKE UPGRADES
Right back at it with Project Looks. Muscle. Longevity. Seems like we’ve done just about everything over the past year to this 2012 Silverado 2500HD. Custom Tuning, modified turbo, improved injection pump, fully built transmission, mild suspension lift, bigger fuel tank, gooseneck hitch, and even a few cosmetic upgrades. All that’s gone into this build already, it should be pretty much done, right? Well, not just yet, as there’s still a host of aftermarket parts waiting to get swapped onto the project. This truck has nearly 600 horsepower under the hood now, more than enough to keep a heavy load moving forward, but there hasn’t been much in the way of helping get that weight slowed down. Now, a year into the build, a set of brake rotors and pads from EBC Brakes is just what the doctor ordered.
While GM trucks haven’t had a major issue with eating up factory brakes under heavy towing, having the best set of brakes at your disposal is something you should never overlook. This truck’s
Carfax report showed a clean bill of health and great service records over the course of its 117,000-mile lifespan. On that list, oddly enough, was record of the front brakes and rotors being replaced twice already. With heavy use it’s not unheard-of to have stock rotors warp from excessive heat, so we’d assumed the truck had been used for a lot of heavy towing in its past life. The brakes had last been changed around 80,000 miles, so now, at 132K, they’d have over 50,000 miles on them. The brake pads were showing lots of life left, but upon close inspection you could see some minor spider cracking in the front rotors.
The Stage 8 Super Truck brake kit from EBC Brakes is the perfect stock replacement upgrade package for a daily-driven, heavy-towing application, as it combines the firm pedal feel and longevity of a semi-metallic brake pad with vented high-performance-
