?? ?? Backing up the potent Duramax is a full billet race version of the six-speed Allison. Built by Diesel Technology Source, it’s graced with billet input, output and intermediate shafts, along with a billet C2 hub, billet P2 planetary and a Goerend extra-capacity transmission pan. Efficient power transfer begins with a model R billet stator triple disc converter from Goerend. Its 2,200 rpm stall speed is well-matched with the truck’s S366/S480 compound arrangement, which results in good overall drivability.
Put together by Dermody Diesel in Murrayville, Illinois, the short-stroke, 390 ci Duramax in Reece Main’s ’08 Silverado is pretty serious. The rotating assembly (balanced at Wagler Competition Products) entails a 3.75-inch-stroke Callies Ultra Billet crank, Wagler forged-steel rods, Ross Racing forged-aluminum, fly-cut, 16:1 compression pistons, Fluidampr and a Sun Coast zero-balance flex plate. Diesel Technology Source Dominator series heads flow 25 percent more air than stock and bolt to the O-ringed block by way of ARP Custom Age 625+ head studs. Things are topped off with a custom compound turbo arrangement that is pieced together with help from HSP Diesel.
