PUT ON A FEW POUNDS?

-

I'm looking for the curb weight (two passengers, full fuel, fifth-wheel hitch) for a 2018 Chevy or GMC CC 4WD SRW Duramax standard bed. I'm trying to determine the kingpin weight capacity.

One GM source listed the curb weight at 7,548 pounds, which is probably without passengers, fuel or hitch. I need the realistic curb weight to calculate fifth-wheel kingpin capacity, which will then help me with my next fifth-wheel trailer purchase.

Mark,

If you already own the truck, I'd have the truck weighed with all of the people, hitch, cargo and other stuff you expect to be taking with you on trips. That way, you'll get the true weight you need to accurately calculate the available capacities. Do an Internet search for the term, “truck scales,” in your local area. There are several scales near where I live, and I suspect there are some near you as well. Any officially listed curb weights you'll find are approximate and usually reflect an empty and completely stock truck—no people, no gear, no accessories.

From GM'S website, here are the 2020 model towing capacities for the diesel single-rearwheel 2500HD/3500HD trucks. I suspect your 2018 is close to these numbers. Good luck.

• Duramax 2500HD Standard Cab—max gross combined vehicle weight: 26,000 pounds

• Max receiver hitch trailer weight: 14,500 pounds

• Max fifth-wheel trailer weight: 18,600 pounds

• Duramax 3500HD-SRW Standard Cab—max gross combined vehicle weight: 29,700 pounds

• Max receiver hitch trailer weight: 14,500 pounds

• Max fifth-wheel trailer weight: 21,500 pounds
