Could an RV Offer Your Ideal Pandemic Escape?

- By Liz Fleming

When You Can’t Leave Your Home, Take Your Home With You

THE OLD CAMPER VANS ARE BUT A MUSTY MEMORY. The RVS of today offer powerful generators, capacious water reservoirs, heating and air conditioning, state-of-the-art kitchens and dream-worthy beds. Depending on the size of your clan, you could choose a cozy camper for two or get totally expansive with an RV that accommodates two families of four and with room to spare. Best of all, you’re no longer tied to the trailer park. Modern RVS are completely self-sufficient, allowing you to enjoy untethered freedom for up to four days at a time before reservoirs need to be emptied or batteries recharged. While well-serviced RV parks are certainly an option, you could easily spend a happy long weekend parked on the back forty of your cousin’s property, without ever having to bother him for a thing. When the time arrives for the necessary maintenance stop, you’ll find it’s a quick matter of emptying and refilling before you’re on your way to your next spot. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Rving today is its four-season appeal. Says Klaus Gretzmacher, Vice President of Tourism for Canadream RVS, a popular company with outlets across Canada, “Our RVS are very comfortable, with heating systems designed to keep you warm even when the temperature dips to -30C.” Comforting words, particularly now, when we’re dying to get away, but are being told to stay at home. Like savvy snails, RV travelers can escape, but take their homes with them. In a time when boarding a plane seems impossible, and even moving from one hotel room to another is a bridge too far, the appeal of self-contained transportation and accommodation is tempting. The luxe extras available such as high-end coffee systems, comfy outdoor loungers for stargazing and bike racks so you can bring your own wheels, make you feel as pampered as you would at your favourite resort—minus the worry of other guests and staff encroaching on your personal space. While the RV’S indoor spaces are compact, a great deal of thought has gone into storage and interior design so you’ll function comfortably with little sense of crowding. Canadream offers a number of pickup points in Canada including – Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax and all locations have trained staff on hand to instruct newbie Rvers in the finer points of loading up and driving off. Confident and COVID safe, you’ll be ready to navigate your first pandemic getaway.
