VIRTUAL NIGHT AT THE THEATRE
ONE OF THE THINGS we miss most dearly at YDH is the feeling of warmth, celebration and occasion of a night at the Theatre – so here we are to bring the theatre experience to you! This ultimate one-night staycation calls for glamour, fine food and drink, and the cushiest front-row seats in the house—your own home—and the businesses of York, Durham and Headwaters have everything you’ll need for curtain call. Tucked high in the hills of Headwaters, the award-winning Theatre Orangeville has delighted families, first-daters and old friends for twenty-six seasons! In the absence of live and in-person performances, you can now experience performances virtually–each one unique–from cabaret-style featuring Theatre Orangeville’s Youth program alumnae, to Valentine’s-themed evenings of music and fun. Theatre Orangeville’s purpose is to bring people together, whether virtually or in-person (when the time is right) to connect and share the thrill and joy of the performing arts. As Artistic Director David Nairn says with pride, “we produce completely Canadian-made content from the ground up!” Nairn even has you covered with pre-show libation ideas in his new book “Raise Your Spirits – 21 Cocktails in 21 Acts” – with proceeds directly supporting Theatre Orangeville. The area surrounding Orangeville is home to locally-focused wineries, breweries and cider houses of international caliber to complement your night-in. Windrush Estate Winery (film set for this year’s virtual performance of Dickens’ A Christmas
Carol) produces beautiful VQA wines available for delivery or pickup. Holland Marsh Wineries is another of the region’s highlights – family-run (three generations, to be exact), Holland Marsh’s wines are carefully made from estate-grown grapes for a focus on terroir-driven flavour that is truly unique to the marsh. Their downloadable tasting cards are a fantastic way to curate your own wine tasting and pairing at home! If craft beer is more your speed, you can order online from one of Headwaters’ many knockout craft breweries. For wild, mixed-culture fermentations and pale ales, visit Caledon’s newest brewhouse – Sonnen Hill. Hop lovers will delight in Goodlot Farm and Farmstead Brewing’s farm-to-barrel ales, porters and other fun seasonal offerings. If more traditional German beers are your preference, Caledon Hills Brewing Co. has you covered with Bohemian pils, lagers and a deadly dark ale. Not to be missed, the tradition of a pre-show dinner is of utmost importance. Whether takeaway from your favourite local restaurant (like Bluebird Café in Orangeville,) a guided culinary class with The Chef Upstairs (complete with ingredient and tool list) or your very own DIY charcuterie board and drink pairings with the help of cheese monger Christine Patton of Fromage - a delightful meal is the way to set the tone for an evening of entertainment. So, what are you waiting for? Choose your marquee show (or subscribe to them all,) send your Zoom invitations, don your finest (or your coziest,) and celebrate an evening-in with friends and family near and far with Theatre Orangeville and York Durham Headwaters!
