Stranger came to my rescue on –30 night

- Craig Dupras, Edmonton

I was driving home from Sherwood Park with my daughter on the evening of Jan. 16 when I noticed I had a flat tire.

I pulled into a gas station on Baseline Road and called a towing company to get a tow to my Edmonton home. My spare tire was already on my truck and I had a flat tire sitting in my basement unrepaired.

They quoted me a two-hour minimum wait. My daughter and I decided to go wait in a nearby fast-food restaurant.

I felt so bad because she was ready to go home to study for one of her Grade 10 final exams.

At 9 p.m., we were back in my vehicle and I was phoning the tow- ing company to find out about the status of my tow. They told me they couldn’t give me a time. I was starting to panic as I didn’t have much money and there was no one that I knew who could come and help me. Right at that moment a grey truck pulled up beside me and the man in the truck asked me if I needed help.

I told him the whole story about the tires and he suggested I go into the gas station and buy a can of tire inflator.

I bought one and this young man gave my daughter and me a ride all the way to Edmonton to pick up the flat tire in my basement.

On the ride to my residence, we talked about putting the flat on my truck and using the can of tire inflator to pump up the tire.

We got to my residence, I grabbed my flat and brought it to his truck. He took me all the way back to Sherwood Park, helped me mount the tire, put the can of inflator in the tire for me and also took money from his own pocket to pay for some air from the gas station.

I jumped into my truck and he told me he would follow me all the way home to make sure I got there safely.

When I got home, I gave the nice gentleman $50 (which he wasn’t going to take) and told him to take his girlfriend out for dinner.

She was in the gentleman’s truck the whole time.

This kind young man not only saved me on a –30 evening, but he also saved me hundreds of dollars on a vehicle repair and tow charges.

If I had left my vehicle there for the evening, it would have frozen solid for sure.

He went so far above and beyond any kind of help that I have ever had. I wanted to tell you this story so this young man could receive some recognition for his kindness and thoughtfulness toward another human being.

His name is Chad Tieulie and he lives in Sherwood Park.
