- Sherri Zickefoose

A Mexican man charged with attempted murder is expected to face a judge to confess to the brutal beating of a Calgary woman.

Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero said he was drunk and high on cocaine when Calgarian Sheila Nabb entered the elevator in a five-star Mazatlan hotel naked.

Quintero — also known by the nickname El Ray — was arrested by Mexican authorities in connection with Nabb’s assault last week.

He is charged with attempted murder, but has not been convicted in court.

Nabb is recovering in Calgary’s Foothills Medical Centre. All the bones in her face were broken in the attack and her family has offered no recent updates as to her condition.

A Mexican police report distributed a week ago said Nabb was found unconscious, bloody and naked.

Quintero apologized through the media and said he drank 19 alcoholic beverages with a Canadian friend who lived nearby. He said he was high on cocaine. After bar-hopping across Mazatlan, they went back to the friend’s house to drink beer. When the beer ran dry, they went to the Hotel Riu.

Quintero said he entered the ritzy hotel through the beach entrance.

He got on the elevator. Nabb got on the elevator at the sixth floor, the state attorney general said.

Quintero said Nabb was naked and the two spoke.

Quintero said he hit Nabb several times in the face and then left through the beach entrance.
