Constructi­on delays will turn Bombers into road warriors

Constructi­on delays at Investors Group Field will force the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to go on an extended road trip to start the 2012 CFL season and play a pre-season game in an unfinished new home.

The stadium’s official completion date could be pushed back to as late as September’s Banjo Bowl.

Last August, Bombers officials expressed extreme confidence the ribbon cutting for the new stadium would occur prior to the team’s home opener in June.

Calixte re-signs with Stampeders

Calgary / The current longest serving player on the Calgary Stampeders roster has signed a contract extension.

Linebacker and special-teams contributo­r Marc Calixte agreed to terms with the team on Monday. Contract details weren’t disclosed.

Ticats sign Mallett

TORONTO / Martell Mallett was succinct when asked what he can bring to Hamilton’s offence after the Tiger-cats signed the 2009 Canadian Football League rookie of the year Monday.

“All in all, I know I will bring success,” the 25-year-old said.

Mallett didn’t feel he needed to be specific because his body of work over a single season with the B.C. Lions was enough to convince two or three teams, including the Ticats, he can again contribute in the CFL.

Bombers hire Crowton

Winn ipeg / The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added former Chicago Bears offensive coordinato­r Gary Crowton to their staff.

Crowton will run the offence for the Bombers and head coach Paul Lapolice.

Argos CEO Nicholson leaves post

Bob Nicholson has resigned as chief executive officer and president of the Toronto Argonauts.

The team announced Monday that Nicholson is leaving “to pursue other opportunit­ies.”
