Abbotsford police get their goat

-

A grumpy goat trapped a rural Abbotsford, B.C., woman in her house Monday after breaking free from a neighbouring property.

The woman, who is in her 40s, came face to face with the goat as she made her way to her car, according to Abbotsford police.

The goat kicked the car and chased the woman back up her porch and into the house, said spokesman Const. Ian Macdonald. Then it started ramming the front door with its head.

“She’s opening the door a crack and then whipping empty Corona bottles at (the goat),” Macdonald said.

But the goat stayed put, and started striking the barbecue on the porch as if to send a message, he said.

A pair of officers were called to sort out the standoff. The younger of the two “picks up a stick and tries prodding the goat,” Macdonald said. It doesn’t work, and after a few minutes of watching, the 30-year veteran “walks straight up to the goat, grabs it by the collar … drags it back to its rightful property, and ties it to a fence post,” Macdonald said, adding that animal control was alerted about the “marauding” goat.
