A 24-year-old man has now been charged with first- and seconddegree murder in the death of his father and his father’s friend, a Regina mother of three boys who had just moved to Hanna.

Family of Lenette Euteneier have identified her as the woman who was found deceased in a home in east-central Alberta early Thursday.

Ex-husband Kelly Euteneier said police informed him and their two children on Thursday of the killing. “They were both shocked,” he said. “They just can’t believe it and neither can I. A car accident is one thing, but murder? That’s too much to believe.”

Cory Euteneier, 21, said he and his mother had moved to Hanna in recent months and said she was visiting with one of the first friends she made in Hanna, Bruce Rideout, whose body was also found by police.

“My mom is one of the strongest people I know,” said Cory. “She’d take the time for someone who doesn’t have family or doesn’t have anybody on their birthday, she would buy them something or she’d make them a cake. It’s just the way she cared about everyone.”

Police have a man in custody, and announced Friday that Curtis Everett Rideout, 24, has been charged in the deaths.

“She was always happy when she was around Bruce,” said Cory Euteneier, who had never met Curtis Rideout.

The identites of the victims have not been officially released as police are still awaiting autopsy results.

Early Thursday, officers were called to a home in the town east of Drumheller and found a man who said he had killed two people. RCMP then went to another house and discovered the dead bodies of a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s.

Curtis Rideout was previously unknown to police. Officials have not said how the couple died, only saying it was not random.

Curtis Rideout will be appearing in court in Drumheller on March 16.
