Full House Lottery dreams even bigger
Hospital fundraiser wows with 3 luxurious grand-prize homes
It’s time to dream big and win huge, all for a good cause.
Three dream homes are up for grabs in this year’s Full House Lottery, including the first grand prize, the 5,603-square-foot Bristol, the largest in the lottery’s history.
The lottery is an important part of the fundraising efforts for the University Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation. If the lottery sells out, each foundation will have raised $1.7 million.
“It’s certainly a worthy cause. The funds raised are split between the University Hospital Foundation and the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation,” says Nicole Merrifield, communications adviser for the University Hospital Foundation.
“This year there’s a wonderful parallel between the two foundations, as the Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation is using its portion of the funds to support women and children’s health research, and the University Hospital Foundation is using it toward the creation of a prostate health clinic, focusing on men’s health.”
The homes are situated side-byside on Whispering River Drive in Windermere North (south of the Anthony Henday on Terwillegar Drive), and all three prizes come with cash and a new car.
The Bristol
The Bristol, valued at $1,415,500 and built by Perry Built Homes with interior design by Chic Chic Readymades Inc., is purpose-made for entertaining.
Dinner-party possibilities are endless in the large kitchen, complete with stainless steel appliances and a large, two-level island.
“I could really do some damage in that kitchen,” Merrifield says with a laugh.
A large, walk-in pantry and second refrigerator augment storage capacity, while a six-burner cook top will delight the family chef.
Light-coloured walls harmonize with dark wood cabinetry, while stone accents on columns combine with hardwood floors to give the area a feeling of livable luxury.
Large windows overlooking the patio and a ravine flood the great room with natural light. A library, den and the music room all provide main-floor retreats.
Upstairs, the huge, 896-square-foot master suite includes a sitting room, a cappuccino bar and a spa-like ensuite, and offers expansive views over the ravine.
The walkout basement is where the party will really come to life, with Tv-viewing lounge, exercise room and a billiards room. Look a little farther and you see the space’s main talking point — a large curved bar and adjacent dance floor, complete with hanging disco ball (!), further proof that the Bristol is all about family, friends and good times.
The Berlioz
The second grand prize is the 4,994-square-foot Berlioz. Built by Landmark Classic Homes and valued at $1,129,853, the Berlioz was inspired by Moroccan architecture, with decor by Demure Décor and Cantera Designs.
The kitchen, with its pendulum lighting fixtures and dark granite countertops, sits adjacent to the dining area, which overlooks the ravine. The great room includes a beautiful stone feature wall that houses the fireplace and television.
The Berlioz strikes a balance between comfortable and lively. The three upstairs bedrooms are a riot of colour, with arched doorways throughout the home adding to its exotic appeal. In the centre of the house, an atrium with skylights floods the rooms with light.
“There’s a lot of light coming in from every floor, no matter where you are in the house,” notes Cory Christiansen, a lottery entrant touring the home.
The basement of the Berlioz is perhaps the most striking space in a house full of them. Dominating the centre room, below the atrium, stands a seven-foot tiled fountain, set off by stone-accented arches. The basement also includes a family room, a fourth bedroom, a bar, a bathroom and a spa area.
The Aspire
The third grand prize is the 3,410-square-foot Aspire bungalow, built green by Kondro Homes and decorated by Absolute Interiors. Valued at $1,026,270, the ecologically friendly Aspire is a perfect home for empty nesters or a couple without children.
Large windows overlooking the ravine bathe the kitchen, dining area and adjoining great room in natural light. Light-coloured porcelain tile flooring is attractive and durable.
“The flooring is really quite unique,” says Cathy Taskey, who hopes to win the Aspire.
“We need indestructible floors — we have pets,” she says with a laugh.
Another striking feature of the Aspire’s main floor is its stunning stone feature walls, set off by the dark kitchen cabinetry and built-in refrigerator.
The master suite is on the main floor and shares a two-way fireplace with the great room. A guest room, with its own bathroom, is downstairs on the ravine level. There, too, can be found a gaming area, a walkout patio and a home theatre.
The final draw for the Full House Lottery takes place June 21, when three lucky ticket holders will find themselves owners of new, spectacular dream homes.
