Jayman, Daytona among those vying for housing awards

It could be a big year for Edmonton’s Jayman Masterbuilt at the Awards of Excellence in Housing Gala to be held March 17 at the Shaw Conference Centre. The home builder is up for 20 awards in multiple categories that run from multi-family and single-family building design to marketing, sales and customer service.

Presented by the Canadian Home Builders Association-edmonton Region (CHBA-ER), the housing awards celebrate and applaud the creative design and craftsmanship of Edmonton-area builders and renovators. They also recognize excellence and professionalism in the field of sales and marketing within the home construction industry.

CHBA-ER represents more than 430 member companies, including new-home builders, renovators, developers, trade contractors, and a host of other housing industry professionals. The Awards of Excellence program represents the industry’s finest, and reflects the hard work, dedication, and success of the association’s members.

Jayman, who has racked up an impressive seven builder of the year awards over the years, isn’t the only notable builder up for awards in several categories.

Daytona Master Builder is vying for a total of 16 awards, nine of which fall into single-family housing categories.

White Eagle Homes, recognized in September with the prestigious Ralph Scofield Award for provincial builder of the year, is in the running for six awards in various single-family home categories.

New this year is the Leadership Award.

“This award recognizes a builder who has led by example within the residential construction industry, breaking trail for others to follow,” says Tim Howard, executive officer for CHBA-ER.

Rohit Communities, builder of the year in 2010 and multi-family builder of the year at the 2011 awards, is a finalist in 13 categories, including the Leadership Award.

“On the heels of another successful year, we are grateful for the acknowledgment, especially the leadership award,” says Rohit Gupta, CFO of Rohit Group of Companies.

“It is an award completely in line with our innovative approach to our business and our dedication to the communities we work in.”

Howard says that this year’s awards have undergone the most rigorous vetting and judging possible.

“We have been changing the judging process for our awards over the past two years to bring as objective a selection of finalists as possible,” he says.

With spring around the corner, there is a fresh sense of optimism in the Edmonton region’s new-home- building industry. Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. is forecasting a significant jump in new-building starts for 2012.

“Our industry is hoping that Edmonton’s high immigration levels, those looking to move up in the market and an almost fully tapped rental market will translate into an increase in the rate of new-home sales in the spring,” says Howard.
