Plan your ‘E’scape’ to funky, urban luxury

Carrington Communities development offers premium quality, esthetics

- Ann Sutherland

When the Ellerslie Rugby Park put one of its pitches up for sale, Carrington Communities scored the big win when it picked up this prime 1.5 hectares of land. The former rugby pitch will now be home to the E’scapes condominium project. The development, which will house more than 300 units over three phases, promises to add a bold statement to the southwest community’s housing landscape.

Ground has been broken for Phase 1 and a sales centre is set to open at the site on March 18. Located on the northeast corner of Ellerslie Road and 111th Street in the upscale community of Richford, E’scapes is Carrington’s highest-end product to date, according to Claudette Maclean, marketing co-ordinator for the company. “During the company’s 39year history, we’ve completed over 6,000 units,” she says. “All of our projects are built to high standards and with E’scapes we are going one step further by including higherend features in the suites, as well as unique building features.”

One of the six-storey building’s features will be two rooftop terraces. Planters and outdoor patio furniture adorning the rooftop is a first for Carrington, who wanted to create a little outdoor oasis for owners.

And then there is the green space surrounding the site. E’scapes backs onto the rugby park, and the developer was able to leave some of the trees along Ellerslie Road and 111th Street. This provides natural landscaping to the site in addition to the landscaping Carrington is supplying to the grounds.

Those who gravitate toward funky and trendy should find E’scapes to their liking. It’s a bit of a departure for Carrington, whose other projects include Waterstone and Rutherford Gates. “E’scapes is unlike anything we’ve done before. It will definitely appeal to the younger crowd and someone who appreciates high quality,” says Maclean, who adds that while the affordably priced units are being marketed toward young professionals, the development is for everyone, including downsizers.

Using reinforced concrete construction, E’scapes’ modern architectural styling will define the building when it’s complete.

The grey and white acrylic stucco exterior with punchy red accents coupled with glass adds up to an invitingly urban look. Amenities in the energy-efficient building will include heated and secure underground parking, a fitness centre and a leisure room for socializing or for hosting larger get-togethers.

With prices starting in the low $200,000s, buyers have a wide range of choice when it comes to floor plans. Suites of various configurations range in size from 694 square feet to the 1,261-square-foot corner suites. Overheight ceiling, oversized windows and open-concept design create a sense of spaciousness. The coveted top-floor suites have vaulted ceilings in the living rooms and many suites offer garden door access to the patio.

E’scapes showcases a host of premium features. Inspired by the notion of gourmet kitchens, the hallmarks of an E’scapes kitchen are full-height sparkling glass tile backsplashes, maple cabinets, engineered hardwood flooring, and granite countertops with flush eating bar. Without taking away valuable counter space, Carrington has managed to include a tech centre in the kitchen — a convenient addition when searching for recipes on the computer.

Maclean adds that along with six appliances, owners can expect a designer lighting package, and ceramic tile in the bathrooms and in-suite laundry areas. Select suites have spa-inspired ensuites, luxurious walk-through closets, and sleek, linear electric fireplaces in the living room.

Situated at the centre of a vibrant community, E’scapes is steps away from shopping, restaurants and amenities, and is conveniently close to the Anthony Henday as well as the Queen Elizabeth II. Public transit is well established and the Century Park LRT is minutes away.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the trails at Blackmud Creek ravine are within walking distance and several nearby golf courses will satisfy those who want to perfect their million-dollar swing. Of course, if rugby’s your thing, you’re in luck with pitches out the back door.
