Social Seen:
creative Edmontonians put on their Halloween best for movie première, fun run
This time of year is all about playing dress-up, but those who do it for a living piled out of a Hummer-limo and a hearse at the Metro/ Garneau Theatre wearing faux fangs for Mosaic Productions’ Truck stop Bloodsuckers movie première this past Monday.
The vampy, campy, made-in-Edmonton flick starring Aimée Beaudoin, Jillean Tucker, Jesse Lipscombe and Ryan Parker is a farcical horror-comedy about two vampire waitresses at Little Hope Diner who have a run-in with some wannabe gangsters, a vomiting cop, a crazy old nude and lots of ketchup.
Guests were asked to get in the spirit and dress up in vampire attire for the film’s debut.
Following an introduction from Mayor Stephen Mandel, moviegoers also got the behind-the-scenes scoop during a Q&A with the cast, writers and directors after the show.
Truck stop Bloodsuckers will air Wednesday at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on BITE TV.
On Sunday morning, participants in the Alberta Diabetes Foundation’s third-annual Halloween Howl Fun Run/ Walk filed through the University of Alberta Butterdome, the surrounding U of A campus grounds and the Edmonton river valley.
Despite the snow and cold temperatures, Edmontonians ran, jogged and walked three, five or 10 kilometres in Halloween costumes to raise awareness about diabetes and raise money for diabetes research.
The family-friendly event also included activities, hot drinks and food after the race, and awarded prizes for the best costumes and most money raised.
Founded in 1988, the Alberta Diabetes Foundation is a notfor-profit, charitable organization committed to finding a cure for the disease. To see more photos from these events, go to edmontonjournal.com/ socialseen
