Turn up the contrast

Black and white paired together were hits on the streets and runways. These extreme contrasts of bright and somber create a clean, structured look. They are best when used with heavier fabrics and materials that hold structure. Wool blends, heavy crepe and leather are the elements of choice.

White worn with sleek black accessories or hardware looks chic. The use of ombre-dyed panels or contrasted lace overlay keeps the look graphic, giving the garments a sport appeal that is strong but feminine.

Investment pieces are those that are classic in line and fabric. Bebe has a great offering this season. The tailored approach to sexy using Lux leather, fine trims and chunky hardware are chic but edgy. The body-conscious styling Bebe has made signature projects a sharp, minimalist aesthetic: a trend that looks haute.

MARTIN SENSMEIER

Poised for success, Martin Sensmeier hosts, films and produces his own show, which will air on networks later this season. Originally from a small town in southeast Alaska, this Edmonton-based wanderer has just signed with Canada’s foremost talent agent, Darrell Mork.

“I would like to think of myself, as a very open-minded, understanding and intense, yet relaxed, person. I love sports, I love traveling and I love learning. I am a bit of an odd and awkward person in a lot of ways. I spend a lot of time alone, but also enjoy my social life very much.

“I feel like there is a world of opportunity out there for me. I desire success. Not in a way that would be self absorbed, or to get rich, but because I can see the possibility of doing positive things for youth and also for my people.”
