McKILLICAN, Stacy Anne

-

I was born in Uranium City, Saskatchewan on July 27, 1966. I died of colorectal cancer on December 2, 2012. I had some amazing Doctors and medical support, Doctors Alex, Sarah Burton MacLeod, Cynthia Wu, Noush Mirhousscini, Karen Gelmon and my personal Doctor for 21 years, Judith Punger and so many nurses as well Gail, Susan and Victoria… thank you so much. I went to a lot of different schools as my dad was transferred many times when I was young. I started school in Regina, then went to school in Sherwood Park before heading out to North Vancouver with my mom Lynn, my dad Gary and my little brother Chris. We moved to Edmonton when my dad started his business and I attended three different schools in St. Albert before we moved to a farm on the Sturgeon River out by Onoway, Alberta about 35 miles west of Edmonton. Graduated from NAIT in Marketing and attended courses at Texas A&M as well as Northwestern in Indianapolis. All of these moves helped me learn how to appreciate new people and new friends and that the best way to get to know people was to listen to them and to understand who they were and show my enthusiasm for what they were doing. Along the way I did a lot of the things girls do, went to Brownies, played piano, had great birthday parties, travelled with my family and went to Disneyland, the lake, a few winter holidays in Hawaii, and many happy times at Fraser Lake, the family summer home in Kelowna. After high school I went to Australia and New Zealand for a year on my own and met some amazing people and experienced some wonderful things. I never lost the appetite for travel and I never lost touch with these friends like Michelle Thomas who just paid a visit from Wales three weeks ago. I worked at a lot of jobs when I was young and made my share of banana splits working at DQ in St. Albert when I was 15. My dad was a regular customer. I had a fitness company of my own for a while. I spent the last decade of my life working with McKillican International, the family business and did every job I think was there from hanging laminate chips at architects to purchasing, order desk and sales. I had the opportunity to be Vice President of the Canadian Division the last year before I got sick and it was a tremendous experience that I was always thankful for. I did my best and my dad always said he was proud of the great job I was doing. I loved sports all my life and road bikes, played volleyball and even participated in some mother-son hockey games with my kids. I ran 10K’s with my mom and friends and rode in the MS Bike-A-Thon once with my son Justin and once with my daughter Rayanne. These were the best of my athletic times… I was so thankful for these opportunities! My brother Chris is amazing... his love for nature, his dedication to the things he loves, his mountain and road biking and the many races he has participated in British Columbia and recently in Colorado. He is a great guitar player too and my dad says Chris is his guitar mentor. Chris you have had a great life too and such a special person. Thank you for all your love and support especially in the past year and over the final months. My mom was the best mom ever and my best friend. My dad always made all of us feel safe and was my mentor. I felt fortunate to have two beautiful parents that I loved so much. My kids have always been the focus of my life and I was blessed to have such wonderful and loving kids. I always tried to spend special time with each one and each has their own unique and very special qualities. They are great kids and I leave them knowing that they will be supported in every way by Lloyd, Liz and my Mom and Dad. They have a great support group of friends and teachers in Onoway who I know will watch out for them. I love them so much. I met Jason Dahl in the past two years and Jason has become the special man in my life. He has loved and nurtured me and made me so happy. I could never thank him enough for the support he has given to me through my illness. Jason is such a good person and I love him. I have been blessed with a great life… I had a lot of fun and I always had great support from my family and friends when I needed it most. It was such blessing for me to have the friends I have been privileged to know during my life… Lisa, Tabby, Petra, Corry and so many more thank you all for being there for me… and thank you to everyone for your prayers for me. No regrets really, I took a few chances, most paid off. There were some things I would do differently and I regret not getting myself checked out sooner when I had some signs things were not as they should be. If I could pass on anything to you who are reading this… don’t take chances with your health. If something isn’t right go and get it checked out right away. Life has been good. Dad says I am going on to the next place where things get even more interesting, challenging and exciting… I am leaving you all in that spirit with my appreciation and love for being part of my life. Thank you with all my love forever.
