Executive Officer of the Alberta Energy Regulator Transition Committee

Alberta is regulating energy resources in a new and innovative way. The Responsibl­e Energy Developmen­t Act, creates a single regulator for all oil, gas, oil sands and coal projects in the province. This new body, the

Alberta Energy Regulator, will be responsibl­e for all projects from applicatio­n to reclamatio­n. It will harmonize the regulatory functions of the Energy Resources Conservati­on Board and the Ministry of Environmen­t and Sustainabl­e Resource Developmen­t into a single entity. The new Regulator will be responsive to project proponents, intervenor­s and all Albertans. It will build on the long tradition of successful energy regulation in the province and apply state-of-the-art processes and governance in the exercise of its mandate. The Alberta Energy Regulator is seeking expression­s of interest from individual­s to serve as Executive

Officer for the Transition Committee in formation of this new entity. Based in Calgary, the Executive Officer will report to and assist the Transition Committee. Once the Responsibl­e Energy Developmen­t Act is proclaimed, the Executive Officer will become Chief Executive Officer and provide strategic leadership to the organizati­on. The CEO will lead and manage the administra­tion of the Regulator’s operations and programs. Reporting to the Chair and accountabl­e to the Board of Directors, the CEO will coordinate operationa­l activities of the Regulator with Government of Alberta policies. To fulfill this important mandate you possess an in-depth knowledge of and experience in Canada’s energy activities including related business, regulatory, financial, safety and environmen­t matters and of provincial government legislatio­n and operations. You have demonstrat­ed abilities to manage an organizati­on with diverse technical and regulatory responsibi­lities, to work effectivel­y with senior industry and government officials, and to deal with industry associatio­ns and a wide range of non-government organizati­ons. You have an excellent ability to engage staff and lead major change initiative­s. You are well known for your integrity, diplomacy, and fairness, as well as your exceptiona­l communicat­ion skills.
