Chair of the Alberta Energy Regulator Transition Committee

-

Alberta is regulating energy resources in a new and innovative way. The Responsible Energy Development Act creates a single regulator for all oil, gas, oil sands and coal projects in the province. This new body, the Alberta Energy Regulator, will be responsible for all projects from application to reclamation. It will harmonize the regulatory functions of the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) into a single entity. The new Regulator will be responsive to project proponents, intervenors and all Albertans. It will build on the long tradition of successful energy regulation in the province and apply state- of-the-art processes and governance in the exercise of its mandate. The Alberta Energy Regulator is seeking expressions of interest from individuals to serve as

Chair for the Transition Committee in formation of this new entity. Based in Calgary, the Chair will oversee the transition of Government of Alberta regulatory functions currently residing within the ERCB and ESRD to the new Regulator. The Chair will formulate and promote the new vision for the Alberta Energy Regulator and lead the development and implementation of the longterm strategy and direction. Once the Responsible Energy Development Act is proclaimed, the Chair becomes Chair of the Board of the new Regulator. The Chair will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the Board and, as the presiding officer at Board meetings, ensures the Regulator meets its obligations and fulfills its governance responsibilities. The Chair will lead the Regulator in managing the business and affairs of the Regulator. The Chair will be a skilled communicator, leader, and relationship builder with extensive understanding of the energy sector and the stature to represent the Alberta Energy Regulator. Both significant and complex to undertake, this will be a challenging and exciting mission for the new Chair. The Alberta Energy Regulator will conduct all of its business dealings and carry out its mandate with integrity, responsiveness, efficiency and environmental awareness.
