Maybe not the real thing, but still fun

- Lowell Con

A Bentley for everyone: The brandnew Bentley Continental GT Remote Control Car is listed by the Bentley Collection among its new children’s products, which is offensive to this writer because unless Bentley has expanded its definition of children to include people of all ages, then it does not consider me to be an appropriate owner of this product, and frankly, I really want one.

Even Bentley’s product description further bolsters its claim on youth, stating that the Bentley Continental GT Remote Control Car “enables the younger enthusiasts to deliver an effortlessly smooth drive, just like the real thing,” further evidencing Bentley’s unreasonable expectation that adults will forego the toy car version and jump directly into the $175,000 real thing. It’s built to a 1:12 scale, features a completely proportioned interior and has working LED head and tail lights. The manufacturer can say whatever it wants, but we are fairly certain there will be just as many buyers of this product that have a few (or many) grey hairs as those that do not. $156; visit bentleymotors.com. Wrist watch time machine: By all accounts, the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 sports car, cool wings and all, was not a success. And yet Back To The Future and a dedicated geek fan base has resulted in the 2013 release of an electric-powered version of this one year non-wonder. In honour of the upcoming release, legendary Swiss watchmaker Romain Jerome has introduced its limited edition DeLorean-DNA Watch, which retails slightly above our holiday gift budget, but could be worthy of blowing a healthy holiday bonus.

Water-resistant to 30 metres, the watch features a brushed stainless steel exterior, dials inspired by the DMC-12’s headlights and wheels, and a black leather strap with anthracite grey stitching that resembles the car’s original upholstery. Romain Jerome has also added pieces of metal from original DMC-12 cars into the bezel of each unit, and an engraving on the back of the case features the car with its unique winged doors ajar. Better move quickly because Romain Jerome is manufacturing only 81 of these. $15,800; visit romainjerome.ch.
